It has finally happened. I have a newsletter….or at least a sign up for one. Things I have learned in the last 4 hours.

• I am not tech savvy
• Good directions tend to leave giant gaping holes filled with assumption (namely that I know what I’m doing)
• More coffee was needed
• I have no idea how people talk about this like it’s easy
• This was not the week to give up wine

At any rate, it’s done now, or I hope it is. Time will tell how badly I have or haven’t mucked it up. Now what will be in these newsletters, you ask? No clue. I imagine they will be an extension of the blog that I have admittedly been neglecting. What can I say? The last 14 months have been especially trying. For those of you who didn’t already know, writing is my passion not my day job. Alas, I still have the dreaded/coveted 9-to-5 that pays the bills and fuels this passion.

Quick up date on what has been going on in the writing world. I made the difficult decision not to sign with a small publisher, opting instead to self-publish. What this means? I get to keep all the profits (or lack thereof) and will need all the help you can give me. That means all the tweets, retweets, posts, word of mouth, clicks, likes, & shares as I try to make my debut novel shine in a sky full of stars.

One of my all time favorite marketing quotes/jokes is

We know that half of our Advertising budget is working, we just don’t know which half.

And goodness is that ever true. Despite having gone to school for Marketing, I have no genuine concept of how to successfully implement it without a bangarang budget. Part of that can be attributed to I didn’t end up in a career that let me build those skills, the other part most certainly is the fact that the industry is ever evolving. Social media has taken on a life of its own. Ads are largely clicked over and ignored. Even all the buzz in the world doesn’t translate into interaction or purchases. Bottom line, virtually everything I learned then is moot now.

So, yeah, it’s hard and maybe a little (a lot) discouraging, but I didn’t start writing to become the next great author with millions to my name and deals leaking out my ears. I write because I want to read those stories and I imagine someone else does too. My promise to you? I will always do everything in my power to give you my best. As a reader myself, I would expect no less from any author.

Now, *rubs hands together gleefully* I believe I promised some big news in my last blog post. Brace yourself. I will be publishing not one, not two, but all three books of Moons of Mystery this year. Is this an insanely tall order? You bet your keister it is. Am I going to do it anyway? Certainly going to try my best.
